Helensburgh Leisure Centre, Helensburgh
Value - £22m | Client - Argyll & Bute Council
A new state-of-the-art leisure facility and public realm, regenerating the local area and providing a modern and fresh environment.
The vision for the new development and its surroundings was to provide a modern and fresh environment, creating a positive impact on the community and attracting new people to the area.
The facility comprises a six-lane, 25m swimming pool with 150 spectator capacity, a gymnasium, fitness studios, meeting rooms and catering facilities.
Serving the facility, a new improved car park has been incorporated with improved access and new creative public spaces, walkways, artistic lighting, soft landscaping and artwork around the pierhead. The pierhead itself is being protected by new flood defences to protect the leisure centre for 1:200yr plus climate change flood events.
We have provided multi-disciplinary specialist design and advisory services in close collaboration with the integrated design team to help manage the interface with the wider public realm and pier works.
In October 2022, the scheme was highly commended in the leisure category at the IStructE Scottish Structural Awards 2022.
