Refurbishment and redevelopment of Birmingham’s premier shopping and lifestyle destination.

The Mailbox is Birmingham’s premier shopping and lifestyle destination. We worked closely with owners, Milligan and Brockton Capital LLP, to deliver building services design consultancy services on this refurbishment scheme, which included retail space, restaurants, hotels, 150,000sqft office accommodation and 24-hour secure parking.

The redevelopment also included a new 45,000sqft Harvey Nichols signature store and a three-screen cinema for luxury cinema operator, Everyman Cinema.

The scheme included a number of complex challenges, for example by roofing the buildings open space, it introduced the need to assess the summer/winter internal environmental conditions, which required the evaluation of various schemes and complex thermal modelling, along with smoke control ventilation system to atria, retail and commercial offices.

Sustainable elements on the project include the use of canal water as the refrigerant condensing water to the central chillers operating with the variable speed pumps to match to cooling load and save energy.

Testimonial:

“At The Mailbox the environment and sense of space was dramatically changed. A roof was added over the entire existing mall, which created a stunning, fully enclosed and skylit urban room with new facades, finishes and store frontages, and we delivered new open plan working spaces.”
