The Ivy, Exeter

Extensive refurbishment of a local landmark and Listed building to deliver a stunning, new and glamorous restaurant.

Our leisure sector experience now includes the refurbishment and fit-out of several new restaurants, including The Ivy Exeter.

Our involvement encompasses civil and structural design duties for aspects of the fit-out and refurbishment works; ranging from structural inspections, floor loading assessments, design and detailing for structural alterations and secondary steelwork including ceilings, plant supports, stairs and balustrades.

The Ivy Exeter is located within a 1900s Grade II Listed former bank, complete with existing vaults in the basement. The restaurant is located over the ground and basement floors and offers customers private dining experiences.

The kitchen and back-of-house areas are within the basement which presented us with a challenge in terms of maximising ceiling heights and accommodating the interaction between the structure and building services.

The existing ground floor remains largely untouched, in terms of our structural involvement, however this did include the addition of a feature bar requiring an independent steel frame.

Due to the age and listed status of the building, the original windows, coverings and cornice columns could not be removed or altered which required our structural works to remain sympathetic to the existing building.

The extensive refurbishment of this Exeter landmark has resulted in a new and glamorous restaurant, opening its doors in June 2021.
