Denise Coates Foundation Building, Keele University

Value - £17.5m | Client - Keele University

This scheme is a new three-storey landmark development at the entrance to the Keele campus. The state-of-the-art building houses Keele University’s Business School together with a ‘Smart Innovation Hub’ and collaborative workspace.

The new building’s open layout and unique co-location of teaching and business spaces enable students, staff and local enterprises to build networks and teamwork effectively. The new Business School, which is the first to be located on a Science Park, houses several of Keele’s courses.

Facilities include a 208-seat lecture theatre, a ‘think lab’ study space, data laboratory, cafe and a business lounge, providing a purpose-built meeting space for students and businesses alike. The school also houses a Bloomberg Financial Market Trading Suite and Smart Innovation Hub.

The Smart Innovation Hub, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Midlands Engine, Staffordshire County Council with support from the Stoke-on-Trent LEP, and Innovation Centre 6, provides 7,500sqft of modern workspace, multiple support programmes for innovation-led businesses and significant opportunities for students and staff to work collaboratively with entrepreneurs and business owners.

The building was opened in early 2020 by Denise Coates CBE and Nataliey Bitature.
