Clancy secures top spot on the University of East Anglia Framework

We are thrilled to have been re-appointed by the University of East Anglia (UEA) to their Estates Division Capital and Minor Works Consultant Register for the next four years. Not only have we been appointed as one of only three consultants providing civil and structural engineering consultancy services, but we've also secured the top spot in this prestigious framework.

During the previous iterations of the framework, we have delivered a range of projects including the design of new buildings and extensions, improvement and refurbishment works, and provision of civil and drainage advice across the estate. Notable projects include the relocation and expansion of the anatomy suite, the establishment of a new brain imaging centre, and alterations at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA).

Oliver Matthews, Clancy Divisional Director, commented, “Having worked at the University for nearly two decades, we’re delighted to have been re-appointed once again. This ongoing partnership underscores our commitment to supporting the University in maintaining and enhancing its estate to continue attracting and increasing student numbers.

“Over the years, we've not only gained an in-depth understanding of the University's buildings but have become an integral part of the design and maintenance process. Our ability to react quickly and provide services efficiently showcases the strength of this long-term partnership.”

The Grade II Listed Ziggurats buildings

The University has a number of historic buildings on the estate and we've played a crucial role in their preservation over the years. In 2012 we became involved with the preservation and rejuvenation of the Grade II Listed Ziggurats buildings, delivering forensic structural engineering services as part of an award-winning five-year concrete preservation plan, involving waterproofing, drainage designs and detailed repair specifications.  Our involvement also extended to refurbishing the historic Earlham Hall, another award-winning scheme.

More recently, we were appointed following confirmation that RAAC was present in several properties on the University's estate, including the Ziggurats buildings. We were engaged to conduct detailed assessments and to offer both short and long-term solutions. Due to the unique design of the Ziggurats, all floors were found to have RAAC, resulting in the condemnation of the buildings until remediation is completed. We have conducted a full assessment at two further multi-storey buildings and, through close collaboration with the University, were able to determine specifically where RAAC was present. Therefore, students can safely remain in their accommodation on the lower floors.

Oliver concludes, “Achieving top spot on the UEA Framework is a testament to our expertise, commitment to sustainability, and successful long-term partnership with the University. As we continue to contribute to UEA's growth and development, the future looks promising for this dynamic collaboration. We look forward to continuing to support the University with their construction, alteration, and refurbishment projects across the campus estate.”
