Dumbarton Harbour, Dumbarton

Client - Tod Timber Engineering

An affordable housing development of 150 homes overlooking the River Leven and Dumbarton Castle.

This waterfront scheme involved the delivery of nine blocks of housing, featuring one, two, and three-bedroom properties, in a mix of town houses and four to six-storey flats.

The buildings were constructed with standard timber kit and external masonry cladding. The six-storey flats, with podium structures designed by others, had the timber built off the podiums for four storeys. The project involved timber kit construction for the external walls with masonry cladding, and the internal load bearing walls, with engineered joisted floors and timber trussed roofs.

Occupying a site that was formerly home to Dumbarton’s Ballantines whisky distillery, the development, for Dunbritton Housing Association, included wheelchair accessible properties and properties let to care providers for supported living and has addressed the growing need for affordable housing in the area.
