RICS Social Impact Awards 2020 - four projects shortlisted

Article posted on: 4 March 2020

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has launched a new awards programme, the RICS Social Impact Awards and the first shortlists have been announced. We’re thrilled not one, not two, but four of our projects are up for the inaugural awards!

The awards are set to recognise the positive and transformational contribution that the built environment has on people's lives across the UK. As a company we are committed to delivering social value and positively shaping the communities in which we live and work. We strive to continuously improve our delivery of social value and ensure it remains at the heart of what we do, therefore we are delighted our projects have been recognised for these awards.

Projects Shortlisted:

Mapleton Crescent has been shortlisted in the Residential category. The multi-award winning 27-storey tower for Pocket Living delivers affordable micro-units alongside a small proportion of market flats. The high-quality finished development provides much needed residential accommodation addressing aspects of the wider housing needs in Wandsworth, London.

Another Residential category shortlist comes with Lion Farm Estate, Sandwell. We delivered Building Services Engineering on this refurbishment scheme, where the project objectives were to reduce fuel poverty, improve health and wellbeing of the tenants and provide a very low maintenance scheme giving the blocks an additional at least 30 years life. And to provide support and encouragement to the area and community as a whole, including small and large businesses supplying labour and goods and helping charitable groups.

Norwich City Football Club Lotus Training Centre has been shortlisted for two awards, Commercial and Leisure. We provided Civil and Structural Engineering services for phase two of the new academy. During the construction phase we offered engineering students from Norwich City College a tour of the new facilities and did a talk on what Civil/Structural Engineering was involved on the site. The new facilities are now being used by the First Team and the Academy, they provide a place where young players can find inspiration and receive world class coaching.

Also shortlisted for an Education award is the University of Birmingham Teaching and Learning Building for which we provided Temporary Works Design and Checking services. Well done to the Contractor, Willmott Dixon, and the whole permanent works design team. The project, which provides the very best in educational facilities, was handed over for occupation in early January 2020.

All category winners will now go head-to-head against other regional winners to compete in the RICS Social Impact Awards Grand Final.
