Plans submitted to regenerate the site of former police station in Leeds

Plans have been submitted to Leeds City Council to create 127 built-to-rent apartments on the site of Weetwood Police Station, creating much-needed new homes in this area to the north of the City.

The transformation will see the existing building be demolished, making way for a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, along with enhancement of the local environment to provide landscaping and green communal areas for use by residents and the local community.

We are working with architect Halliday Clark providing civil and structural engineering consultancy on the proposed development which will adopt high environmental standards that respond to the City Council’s climate emergency agenda, including the materials and construction methods being highly sustainable and sympathetic to the local area.

The eight-storey scheme will be split across three blocks, comprising seven storeys above a podium level. The buildings will be highly energy-efficient, benefiting from solar power, EV charging points, and a ‘green roof’, where accessible, which will be covered in moss to increase biodiversity and act as a natural air purifier.

Clancy Consulting’s Divisional Director, Daniel Singh commented, “We are working closely with the client, Pickard Properties, to find a structural solution where embodied carbon can be reduced through the design. It’s great to be part of a scheme that is contributing to the regeneration of the local area.”

Subject to planning approval, demolition of the existing buildings is expected to begin in early 2024 with construction expected to follow later that year.
