On 4 July 2023, HRH The Princess Royal visited Strathcarron Hospice, and we were delighted to have been invited to attend.

During her visit, HRH The Princess Royal met with individual patients, staff and key supporters. Additionally, she was given a tour of the new extension to the Hospice, a project in which we are involved.

Strathcarron Hospice is an independent hospice charity supporting people living with life-limiting conditions across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. We were engaged to provide building services design for the two-storey extension building to the Hospice, which forms part of the strategy to develop the Hospice services over the next five years.

The new block, linked to the original building via an elevated enclosed footbridge, will include a consultants’ room, a meeting room, new staff facilities, a new changing area, staff showers and kitchen, with storage accommodation below. The construction works have been carried out while the Hospice continued its operations uninterrupted.

Reflecting on our involvement Clancy Associate, Kevin Baillie stated, “It’s great to have contributed to a scheme knowing that these improved facilities and spaces will enable the Hospice to continue in delivering a fantastic service and outstanding care to its patients for years to come.”

This year's visit by HRH The Princess Royal holds special significance in the 42-year history of Strathcarron Hospice, as it marks her 37th visit since the Hospice's first birthday celebration in 1982. The atmosphere was particularly celebratory this time, as it was the first occasion where face masks were not required due to COVID-19 regulations.

Irene McKie, CEO of Strathcarron Hospice commented, “We all look forward to our annual visit from HRH The Princess Royal. It is a special date in Strathcarron Hospice’s diary and there is always a great atmosphere in the Hospice in the days running up to her arrival. It is fantastic that she can devote so much of her time to be with us.”

The addition of this new space will have a profound impact on both the staff and patients, as it will create more room for patients and their families. The new building is expected to be fully complete by early autumn, further enhancing the Hospice's ability to provide exceptional services and care.
