A new £22m student accommodation scheme located in Sheffield city centre, comprising 241 units over 16 storeys.
This new 16-storey student accommodation block is being developed in a prominent location in Sheffield city centre, and will comprise 228 en-suite rooms and 13 studios.
Located in the heart of the Sheffield Hallam University campus, the scheme will feature a fully equipped gym, laundry facilities, group study and quiet areas, and an on site coffee shop.
It will also offer wi-fi throughout and 24-hour CCTV surveillance.
The site is located in an existing, established mixed-use area with a growing residential community. The scheme will further enhance the residential offer in the area and will strengthen the cohesion of the existing community which has already stimulated massive regeneration of the area.
The proposed building will feature a combination of green / brown roof constructions with the potential for PV arrays to maximise energy generation towards meeting the 10% on-site renewable energy generation requirement.
The sloping site topography presented some challenges along with an existing highway retaining wall forming the boundary to the site, the remnants of the previously demolished building. The structure of the building comprises an in-situ concrete frame with flat slabs supported on columns and a central concrete core providing overall stability. The foundation solution is a combination of pad and core bases directly onto the Sandstone bedrock and piles at locations of infilled basements.
Completion is planned for the September 2022 academic year.
