Clancy Consulting provided Civil, Structural, GeoEnvironmental and Flood Risk Assessment services for the new IDEA (Innovation Design Engineering Applications) Centre. The innovative building is the first of its kind in the UK, linking digital technologies with engineering skills for the future.
The facility has been developed to respond to the skills required for regional employers in the advanced manufacturing, science and technology sectors. The state of the art building embraces leading edge technology and learning facilities.
We arranged and procured site investigations and flood risk assessments utilising our in-house teams expediting the front end works to assist in the planning process timeline.
Clancy Consulting designed the SUDS drainage infrastructure to reduce rain water discharge rates including permeable area of new car parking. The foundations and external works utilised recycled materials to assist in the building gaining a BREEAM excellent rating for sustainability.
The steel frame was fully designed including all main connections to minimise sub-contractor design costs and help with programme. Exposed pre-cast units for the first and roof level soffit gave the building an open feel and the services were left visible to show the students the working features of the building services and monitoring equipment used in reducing energy usage.
Renewables included the use of roof top PV elements, natural ventilation systems and rain water recycling.
The project was delivered to a tight programme and within budget to allow the college to open the high-tech facility for the September intake.
