Hounslow House, London

Clancy Consulting was appointed by Bouygues UK to provide Civil and Structural engineering services on this new build Civic Centre building.

The scheme comprised a basement and seven upper floors, with a terrace amenity space at the fifth floor and plant on two levels at roof.

Clancy provided the design services for the main rc frame and contiguous piled wall basement as well as the below ground drainage and external hard standing works. Site challenges included the building being built up to the existing highway boundaries and the basement slab being potentially built into the ground water table. With little room around the building the coordination of below ground drainage with existing and new services required particular consideration.

Project complexities included the coordination of building services through main structural elements including large span ground floor level transfer slabs and long-span support beams, steel framed long-span prefabricated steel beams to an upper level ‘open-plan’ Civic Chamber, support of a part cantilevered feature staircase, partially hung from the building roof.

The incorporation of precast concrete [pcc] elements which, besides sustainability benefits, were predominantly incorporated to improve construction programme and health and safety reasons. Clancy worked with Bouygues UK to ensure the efficient design and coordination of this hybrid pcc and rc concrete main frame.

The project was shortlisted for the following awards;
