We are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across the business and in turn we offer a positive and nurturing working environment where you can both challenge and develop your career.

We recognise our people are our most important asset and we strive to provide them with a stimulating and positive working environment. By offering an inclusive setting whereby individuals are recognised for their achievements and contributions to the business we in turn continue to grow and develop as an organisation, upholding our reputation as a market-leading consultancy.

As an owner managed business we embrace the feeling of inclusion that comes hand-in-hand with a family run business mentality and we maintain a strong ethos of involvement and participation across the organisation.

We foster strong working relationships both internally and externally as we recognise the importance of how this benefits both our staff and our business as a whole.

All staff are included and approached for feedback. We regularly conduct firm wide reviews to encourage participation throughout and our senior staff contribute to the business planning process and a national staff committee ensures representation across all the offices. These are communication forums to ‘have a say’ in the best way forward for the future of the business. There is also an option to buy shares in the company after qualifying criteria.

Industry recognition

  • We renewed our Investors in People accreditation at the end of 2018 and were awarded Silver Level. This was our 7th review against the standard.
  • We were again listed within New Civil Engineer’s (NCE) Top 100 Companies to work for 2019, which we have been listed within since its inception.

We are committed to the continuation of the industry and work with schools, colleges and industry bodies to promote the apprenticeship route towards a career in engineering.

We offer a number of apprenticeship schemes across our business and our apprentices benefit from one to one training with a team of experienced and respected professionals from all levels within our business. As an apprentice at Clancy Consulting you will be provided with a development plan and we will support both your professional and personal development with internal training and opportunities to continue your further education through a variety of industry recognised qualifications.

As an enthusiastic ambitious individual you have a choice where to apply to for your future career and we want to be that choice.

Learning and Development

Our people are our strength. This allows us to provide a client service that requires a sound level of knowledge, experience and personal skills. The significant investment we make in developing our staff means we can meet and invariably exceed our client's expectations.

We promote a culture of learning, this encourages all staff to be proactive in their own development and therefore reach their full potential.

We support our staff at every stage of their career, in terms of time and resources. This may be to achieve further qualifications, Corporate Membership, or to maintain an up to date Continuing Professional Development record.

The Company is recognised by the Institution of Civil Engineers and Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers as an approved training provider and also by the Institution of Structural Engineers on their IPD company registration scheme. We are also fully accredited to Investors in People, which we have held continuously since 2000.

Supported further education

We support our staff with their continued professional development and all staff, from apprentices through to senior management, have the opportunity to continue their education through a number of supported qualifications and routes.

In addition to being committed to supporting our staff, we also support students still in education. One example is Mike Powers, Board Director, who has been a mentor on the Women in Brunel Engineering and Computing (WiBEC) programme for the last couple of years, being invited back following successfully mentoring a student in the last academic year. The programme helps female graduates and undergraduates to gain a better understanding of the career paths and opportunities available to help them. Mike has shared his knowledge, experience and expertise and has helped his mentees to set personal goals to assist developing a competitive advantage in the graduate job market.

Mike commented:

“I am passionate about equality across the industry and strongly believe this should be highlighted, which is why I enjoy acting as a mentor and hope I am seen as a trusted and influential supporter for the WiBEC programme by my peers. The role gives me hope that the tide is turning and that as an industry we are becoming more diverse and encouraging people with the right skill sets and mentality to engineering. I find the role interesting as each mentee requires different inputs form a mentor and my role has been substantially different for both of my mentees to date.”

Diversity and Equality

We actively promote diversity and equality throughout, nurturing our staff and creating equal opportunities for all individuals across the organisation. By providing opportunities for people regardless of their circumstances or background we ensure we have the best people with the most appropriate skillset for the job.

We recognise that everyone is different and that we all have something to offer. Stepping inside other’s shoes helps us understand each other’ s aspirations and needs and therefore how each and every individual can contribute to the success of our business.

At Clancy we like to look at what each of us can do and not what we can’t. Our equal opportunities policy and the communication of it to those who we work with helps us all work together in harmony. We understand it is essential to attract and retain employees, clients and suppliers from all sectors of our community.

Recruitment, retention and promotion

Recruiting, retaining and promoting employees from all backgrounds and disciplines are critical to the success of the company in this rapidly changing market.

The Company is committed to providing a working environment in which employees are able to realise their full potential without any discrimination, harassment or victimisation.

Corporate Social Responsibility

People are at the heart of our business. The culture of the Company is built around the people who we work with whether they are colleagues, clients, other professionals, suppliers or the local community. The people we work with and the way we work with them ensures the success of our Company and we continually review our environmental, economic and social impact.

This is part of our commitment to our social responsibility and includes our strong social conscience in key areas such as diversity, environment and sustainability, working within the community and the quality of life of our staff and their families

Working within the community

We believe we help to make a difference by engaging with our local communities. We support local education and charities in terms of time and resources. Our staff regularly participate in education initiatives both within local schools and in our offices, and fundraise for a large number of local and national charity events.

Clancy takes a responsible viewpoint on the activities we embark on, both in the work we do for our clients and the way we work in our own environment. We work in accordance with the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 and have action plans to improve internal and external environment factors in the future.

A work life balance is important to all of us, allowing our staff the reassurance of flexibility, health and wellbeing and the time and support available when needed most. In addition to legislation and contractual benefits, we offer “the little things that matter the most”.

We are committed to our equal opportunities policy and making sure it includes and is communicated to all the people we work with, including our clients, employees, suppliers and other professionals.

University Prizes

Clancy Consulting are committed to working with schools, colleges, universities and industry bodies to ensure the continuation of the industry and to promote a career in engineering.

We are pleased to sponsor annual prizes at a number of local universities and colleges, recognising students demonstrating excellence in a particular discipline of engineering. We initiated the Clancy Consulting Prize in 1997 as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations.

In addition to our contribution to the industry we recognise that our people are our most important asset and we strive to provide them with a stimulating and positive working environment. Our long-standing Investors in People accreditation and again being selected in the NCE Top 100 Companies List reflects our dedication to our staff.

Social Activities

We work well together and we play well together. Our social events are arranged on a regular basis and involve charity fund raising, team building and just having fun. Regular events include walking, canoeing, wine tasting evenings, crazy golf tournaments, ten-pin bowling and quiz nights, and sporting activities such as inter-office football and cricket matches.

Our annual summer party is the main event of the year to which all staff and their families are invited, providing the opportunity to meet other colleagues and put faces to names of any new staff who may have joined us.

We also organise an annual walking weekend in memory of our late director Bob Campbell. During the Bob Campbell Weekend we challenge ourselves to a mountain walk and a stay together in a hostel or camping in the Lake District.

Sponsorship & Fundraising

The company has staff who work within the local community such as school governors, rugby and football coaches, youth club leaders, etc. We also sponsor local amateur sports clubs, junior football, rugby and cricket teams. The company and staff members are involved in a variety of fundraising and sponsorship events, either individually or as teams, for local and national charities.

The company itself also makes donations to local, national and international charities. During our 40th anniversary celebrations we raised over £15,000 for the British Heart Foundation and RedR.

Most recently, we held a corporate cycling event, inviting professional colleagues along, and we raised £5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
