Graduate Structural Engineer

We require a Graduate Structural Engineer with typically 2/3 years experience to join our Altrincham team to work on a wide variety of challenging projects.

The role will consist of the preparation of design calculations and drawings under the supervision of a Senior Engineer. A sound knowledge of Masonry, Concrete, Steel, Timber, together with some experience in external works and drainage, and their design will be an essential prerequisite. Similarly, knowledge of UK and Euro design codes is expected.

Experience in the production of drawings will be essential for this position. The majority of our work will involve the use of both 3D (Revit, Civils 3D) and 2D (Autocad) platforms. A good working knowledge of either or both of these tools or similar packages will be essential for the role. We will provide training to help supplement any existing skills.

It is anticipated the role will involve liaising with clients and other construction professionals throughout the design and construction process and excellent communication skills coupled with a personable and professional disposition will be expected.

As part of the day to day duties, it will be necessary to work closely with the rest of the team. The ability to direct and supervise Technicians will be beneficial, as will grounding in the commercial aspects of projects.

It is expected that candidates will be registered as Graduate Members of the Institution of Civil or Structural Engineers. Full mentoring and training will be provided in order to progress the candidate towards Chartered status at the earliest opportunity.

We are currently involved in a large number of projects ranging from small scale refurbishment through to multi-million pound developments and the role will include involvement on the full range of projects in the office.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

  1. Involved in project design from inception to completion.
  2. Preparing design calculations and drawings.
  3. Communicating with Technicians and other members of the team.
  4. Supporting Senior Engineers in carrying out the project design.
  5. Carrying out Professional Development and maintaining records in accordance with ICE or IStructE requirements in order to progress to Chartered status.
  6. Ability to show initiative and drive and to manage time effectively.
