Epic 300-Mile Charity Bike Ride

On 28th October 2017, our Scott Lydon (Divisional Director, MEP Birmingham) and the other 18 members of Team Coolair will set off on an epic eight-day, 300-mile cycle ride from Saigon in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
In training Scott has added cycling ten miles along canal towpaths and back streets to and from work each day to the usual weekend hill and distance biking, to help prepare for the narrow paths and unmade tracks on the route, which will also have to be tackled in stifling heat and humidity.
Scott, whose experience of cancer in his family was the driver behind his participation commented:
“My dad battled prostate cancer not too long ago and I remember all too well the uncertainty and worry that accompanies the countless operations, hospital treatments and medications that cancer often requires. It tests us all, and I imagine this is a similar story for many. Knowing that the turn of each pedal and each drop of sweat in the high temperatures and humidity of Vietnam and Cambodia might go some way to funding the fight against this disease that affects so many of us makes this incredible challenge all the more worthwhile.”
Scott aims to raise £3,000 as his individual target from the ride, all of which will be donated to the Challenge Cancer charity.
Fundraising activities to date have included a charity concert by Scott’s band Under Construction, which raised £3,800. The covers band, made up of building and construction industry professionals, performed two sets to a sell out crowd at The Actress & Bishop in Birmingham.
The band consisting of Nik Owen-Jones, Mike Bates, Mike Lally, Steven Handley and our very own Scott Lydon entertained the audience with tracks from Stereophonics, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Oasis, to name but a few. This was a fantastic evening and was just one of many charity events the band have supported this year.
Thank you to all who have supported and continue to do so – donations are still welcome and appreciated on Scott’s charity page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/scott-lydon
