Clancy Join Forces with The Willows School to Construct Structurally Sound Gingerbread Creations

We partnered with The Willows Primary School in South Manchester on Monday 12th December 2016 to host the Clancy Gingerbread House Competition. The competition was open to all years and allowed the participants to be creative constructing any building, famous structure or landmark. The effort from pupils and parents across all year groups was phenomenal with over 40 gingerbread creations entered into the competition! The structures ranged from houses and churches, to the Empire State Building, the Shard, Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and even the Leaning Tower of Gingerbread.
Guest judges from Clancy Consulting were at the school on the day to judge the creations, looking for structural stability, appearance and originality. Once the winners were decided (pictured below), construction related prizes were awarded to one star baker/engineer from each of the key stage groups (nursery and reception, one from year one and two, one from years three and four, and another prize for years five and six).
We were delighted to be able to host this event at the school and were thrilled to hear all the positive feedback from teachers and staff. We hope that the hands on approach to learning about structures, maybe for the first time for some, was engaging and stimulating.
Our HR Manager commented; “We believe engineering is a rewarding, diverse and challenging career choice, and we are passionate about raising awareness and promoting careers in construction and the relevance of STEM subjects, to make it an appealing option from an early age, for both girls and boys.”
We are dedicated to our social responsibility, in addition to the above we also sponsor local school football teams and our staff regularly participate in education initiatives both within local schools and in our offices.
