Project Fresco, Ashington

Article posted on: 2nd June 2015

The new £100m+ state of the art paint manufacturing facility for AkzoNobel in Ashington is now well progressed.

Main Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine completed the main buildings and external works in January 2014. Since then, extensive secondary steelwork construction has been undertaken including major pipe bridges, tank farm platforms and numerous load bearing mezzanine floors.

Further to Clancy Consulting completing their role as client side engineers, we have now finished detailed designs for the main pipe support infrastructure with PM PROjEN, as part of their role as lead process designers.

This new facility will be home to AkzoNobel’s internationally famous brands, including Dulux, Hammerite and Polycell and is set to be one of the most sustainable plants ever built.

This package of work included the design of multi storey pipe bridges with ability for future expansion. Designs undertaken with 3D analysis and design software are fully compatible with the process designers’ requirements ensuring a fully co-ordinated approach and leading to a smooth site installation process.

Clancy Consulting are proud of their part played in the huge investment project made by AkzoNobel and we wish them well in the final installation and commissioning phases of this innovative project.

The photographs indicate ongoing installation of pipework onto the bridges and associated support platforms.
