Sikh Temple, Glasgow
We provided Civil and Structural engineering consultancy services for Scotland’s first purpose built Gurdwara.
The £3.8m design and build project, for Gurdwara Guru Granth Sahib, Glasgow, on the Southside of Glasgow has the capacity to accommodate 1,000 worshippers.
The new, 2 storey, steel framed structure is located on the brownfield site of a former tram workshop and is bounded by the Tramway Theatre and a busy rail line into Glasgow. The site was also over shallow mine workings which required to be grouted and piled through as part of the project and which also involved the use of large GRP components to form the parapets and domes. The steel frame involved the use of long span cellular beams and roof trusses to accommodate services distribution and create the required large open plan spaces.
