Pendower Hall, Newcastle

Clancy Consulting were commissioned to undertake the structural, M&E and drainage design for both the new works and the renovation works to the existing Grade 2 listed building.

Pendower Hall is an existing Grade 2 listed former bankers mansion, situated on a site underlain by Hadrian’s Wall, which is a World Heritage Site.  There were also numerous TPO’s across the site.

The scheme comprised the refurbishment and restoration of the existing building to provide office, conferencing and wedding facilities, plus the addition of a new build 400+ person capacity banqueting and function hall.

The project required a sensitive approach to the details to satisfy listed building conditions as well as careful consideration of the foundation and drainage details to protect the underlying archaeology.

In addition, the interior of the building was to be fitted in the grandest style, in keeping with the original mansion house.  Close liaison between the structural and interior design teams was required to facilitate the delivery of the internal vision for the project.

Clancy worked closely with the architects and interior design team to produce a structural, M&E and civil engineering solution that delivered the high specification and finish required by the project, whilst avoiding and impact on existing trees, as well as preserving the existing listed character and archaeology.
