The Ferry Boat Inn is located just outside of the Norwich City Centre and sits alongside the River Wensum. It is a historical venue and its history as a public house and music venue can be traced back to 1822. The venue closed down in 2006 due to the protests from local residents regarding noise. Redevelopment proposals have been in the making since.

Clancy Consulting provided Flood Risk services to support the planning application for a residential development of 41 dwellings on a small site. The flooding in the UK in December 2015 & January 2016 had sharpened the EA’s focus with regard to developments that lay within the flood plain. As the site lies within Flood Zone 3 providing appropriate compensatory flood storage was critical to gaining the approval from the EA. The only practical place to provide compensatory flood storage was in the basement car park.

Through consultation, modelling and co-ordination with the architect, we were able to prove the use of the basement car park for compensatory storage was safe and viable.

The scheme went on to successfully gain planning approval in March 2016.
