Barking Town Hall, London
We were appointed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) to provide the structural engineering services for the refurbishment of the Barking Town Hall.
The project comprises of internal remodelling and modernising of the main reception as well as the office space to create an open plan office.
The existing building is a four storey building with a central clock tower that is a further two storeys taller. It is of traditional masonry construction with a steel frame to support the clock tower. The floors are concrete clay pot floors spanning onto the load bearing masonry walls.
A 3D model of the existing structure was constructed. This was used as a base model for both the architectural and structural 3D models. The building services engineers had to also collaborate with the design team to facilitate the new services within the ceiling zone.
