John Mitchell

John is a Director with responsibility for structural engineering projects throughout Scotland.

He is based in the Glasgow Office and is also active in coordinating and managing projects undertaken from Prestwick. He is interested in sustainable design and innovative structural engineering concepts.

John was born and educated in Ayr before completing an honours degree in Civil/Structural Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. He has worked in professional Consulting Engineering private practice since graduating from University in 1983. He was initially employed for three years with W. A. Fairhurst and Partners in both their Dundee and London Offices. A further two years was spent in London working with Whitby and Bird on numerous prestigious projects to £35M value before returning to the West coast of Scotland to take up a post as Resident Engineer on a £20M (1989) contract at the Clyde Submarine Base, Faslane.

He joined Hodgins Smith Partnership in 1991 and became a partner in 1996. John has worked on a wide variety of contracts utilising most forms of building construction ranging from small scale domestic to the design of multi-storey structures and large scale industrial and retail developments. John has experience in the design of foundations in difficult ground conditions.

John is a keen sportsman. He follows the local rugby team, plays golf throughout the year, coaches cricket and is also interested in power boating.
